If the long-awaited arrival of spring has you dusting off your suitcase, you may be wondering what is acceptable to take on a plane, like your favorite vitamins and supplements. In today’s post, we take a look at TSA regulations and tips for easy, less-stressful air travel.

Solid and Powder Supplements

Rest assured, solid forms of vitamins and supplements are allowed in both your checked bags as well as your carry-ons. For powders, it’s important to note that anything greater than 12 oz. (350 ml) must be placed in a separate bin for X-ray screening. These items may require additional screening and containers may need to be opened. For your this reason, you may consider placing any powders over 12 oz. in checked bags.

As for pills and solid vitamins and supplements, individuals can bring these on board in unlimited amounts as long as they are screened. And, because supplements and vitamins are not required to be in their original bottles, travelers can also use pill boxes to transport them.

Liquids and Gels

Vitamins and supplements that are in a liquid or gel formula are acceptable, however, they must follow the regular TSA precautions. So for carry-on items, all liquids and gels must be 3.4 oz or less and fit inside a quart-sized bag. Larger sizes will need to go in your checked bags.

Gummies

Gummies, like all candy, that are not in a liquid and gel form, can be added to your checked and carry-on bags. It’s just important to note that gummies containing THC are prohibited on airplanes. While the TSA officer isn’t screening specifically for drugs, any that are found will be confiscated and the proper authorities could be contacted.

When it comes to the do’s and don’ts of travel, the TSA does try to make it as clear as possible for travelers to know what is acceptable to bring on the plane. That said, one of the goals of TSA is to ensure the safety of all travelers. Therefore, while your items undergo the security screening, you can travel easier following the tips above.
