The terms “probiotics” and “prebiotics” have garnered a lot of attention over the years. And, while they might sound similar, they perform different, yet complementary, functions in nurturing our gut microbiome. Here we break down what they are and how they differ.

What are probiotics?

Probiotics are live microorganisms that support our health in countless ways. We have trillions of good bacteria living inside us, but we must support this microscopic ecosystem to ensure that the beneficial bacteria outweigh the bacteria that could threaten our health.

These beneficial bacteria can be found in supplements, as well as naturally in some of the foods that we consume, such as yogurt and fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha tea. They can also be found in some unpasteurized pickled vegetables.

What are prebiotics?

Prebiotics are specific nutrients from carbohydrates that the body cannot digest, most of which are fiber. Prebiotics act as food for good bacteria which in turn, help these beneficial bacteria grow and multiply.

Like probiotics, prebiotics are found in supplements and some of the foods we eat including bananas, berries, legumes, beans, peas, asparagus, and onions.

Some of those foods can also be considered synbiotics because they contain both beneficial bacteria and a prebiotic source of fiber for the bacteria to feed on.

A Healthy Gut is a Happy Gut.

We probably don’t have to tell you, but your gut can greatly influence how you feel. It has the power to make you feel your absolute best.  On the flip side, it can also make you feel bloated, sluggish, and grumpy.

That’s one reason our Cup+Cap Digestive Support: Happy Shake and Probio8 have your back—or, more specifically, your gut.

With almost a dozen vitamins and two dozen fruits and vegetables, our Happy Shake also has appetite suppressors, carb blockers, and fiber for blood sugar balance. It is made with a proprietary blend of bio-available protein and four powerful amino acids to make your workouts longer and your body stronger.

As for our Probio8, it contains eight different strains of beneficial probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics. Plus, every capsule is loaded with 23 billion healthy bacteria. The bacteria are tested to arrive alive and the patented formula is designed for the acidic gut environment.
